“You look happier”
The current trend on social media where you put the quote “you look happier” on a video with additional context of why you are happy.
Have you seen it?
For years I dreamed of being the woman in the “after” photo. The one who had it all figured out. The one who had a big smile on her face. Glowing from the inside out. Sun shining. New and improved.
Finally, happier.
And honestly, in this moment, I am.
The woman I was five years ago feels so far away.
She was happy in her own way, too.
She was living an amazing life.
But she was more stressed and less healthy.
She’d push through days with non-stop plans, but she was exhausted.
She’d work endlessly to make everyone happy.
She felt like something was off, but she couldn’t put her finger on it.
Through A LOT of reflection, work, and effort, I’ve made changes to be more aligned than ever … more about that in a different post.
As I posted my own “you look happier” video today, I added this disclaimer—I am happier. But also it ebbs and flows and sometimes it’s hard and some days I cry and then some days are great.
Happier is not the finish line, it’s how you walk the path.
It reminded me of the Coleman Huges podcast I recently listened to where he interviews author Arthur Brooks on this topic of happiness. In the podcast, Brooks says real happiness is lived. It’s built from meaning, enjoyment, and satisfaction. I loved this perspective.
These are not things you “achieve”. They are things you continually create.
In our pursuit of the elusive happiness, we need to keep this in mind.
